Cooking is a useful profession that can provide good buffs and also help you level faster by replenishing your HP.

This is a 1-300 Cooking without Fishing guide. Cooking and Fishing complement each other very well but some people may want to level cooking alone (for example, if you already have max fishing or just don’t care about cooking).

Leveling Cooking

For all levels you can either farm the materials yourself by killing mobs or purchase them directly off the Auction House.

1-65 (or 1-75 if the materials are cheap and abundant)
Recipe: Herb Baked Egg or Roasted Boar Meat or Charred Wolf Meat (whichever is cheapest to purchase on auction house).

If you cannot purchase the materials on the auction house (recommended), simply gather them in Elwynn Forest (Alliance) or Mulgore/northern Durotar (Horde). If these are very cheap (they often are less than 50 copper per piece on the auction house), it’s recommended to grind them until they turn grey. Otherwise, if they are expensive or you are farming them yourself, stop as soon as the recipe turns green.

65-110
Recipe: Coyote Steak, Crab Cake, or Boiled Clams (Auction House) or Smoked Bear Meat (grinding).

If you’re buying from the auction house, just buy whichever is cheapest. If you are grinding, go to purchase the recipe for Smoked Bear Meat from Andrew Hilbert in The Sepulcher, Silverpine Forest (Horde) or Drac Roughcut in Thelsamar, Loch Modan (Alliance).

110-130
Recipe: Murloc Fin Soup (Alliance) or Dig Rat Stew (Horde).

For Alliance, purchase the Murloc Fin Soup recipe from Kendor Kabonka in Stormwind Old Town. While you’re here, also purchase the Curiously Tasty Omelet recipe, which is used for 130-150. Then either purchase the murloc fins or grind them in Westfall or Wetlands coastal areas.

For Horde, complete the Dig Rat Stew quest to obtain the Dig Rat Stew recipe from Grub, who is located off the road southeast of Crossroads in The Barrens. Gather the materials by killing the same Dig Rats needed for the quest.

130-175
Recipe: Curiously Tasty Omelet (Alliance) or Hot Lion Chops (Horde).

Train Expert Cooking by using the Expert Cookbook sold by Shandrina in Silverwind Refuge, Ashenvale (Alliance) or Wulan in Shadowprey Village, Desolace (Horde) for 1 gold. Alternatively, you can purchase the book from the Auction House.

For Alliance, purchase the Curiously Tasty Omelet recipe from Kendor Kabonka in Stormwind Old Town. Then, either purchase the Raptor Eggs for the omelet from the Auction House, or farm them by killing the raptors in Arathi Highlands. If you are too low of level for Arathi Highlands, you can try killing the raptors in The Barrens or Wetlands. If Raptor Eggs are abundant on the Auction House, you can craft these until it turns green at 190.

For Horde, purchase the Hot Lion Chops recipe from Zargh in Crossroads, The Barrens. You can farm the lion meat from the mountain lions in Hillsbrad Foothills.

175-200
Recipe: Soothing Turtle Bisque (both factions)

For Alliance, go to Southshore, Hillsbrad Foothills and complete the Soothing Turtle Bisque quest offered by Chef Jessen. Continue killing the same turtles to get all of the Turtle Meat that you need.

For Horde, go to Tarren Mill, Hillsbrad Foothills and complete the Soothing Turtle Bisque quest offered by Christoph Jeffcoat. Continue killing the same turtles to get all of the Turtle Meat that you need.

200-225
Recipe: Spider Sausage (both factions)

Learn the recipe from any cooking trainer. Purchase the White Spider Meat or farm it from the cave northwest of Brackenwall Village in Dustwallow Marsh.

225 – Artisan Cooking Quest

Complete the artisan cooking quest, Clamlette Surprise, offered by Dirge Quikcleave in Gadgetzan, Tanaris. While you are in Gadgetzan, buy the Recipe: Tender Wolf Steak sold by Dirge which is a backup recipe for 225-285 (will save you a long trip in case you need it). The Clamlette Surprise quest requires you to collect the following three items:

Item Quantity Location
Giant Egg 12 (minimum), 80-90 total recommended for next recipe* Kill Rocs around the bone piles south of Gadgetzan, Tanaris or purchase on the Auction House.
Zesty Clam Meat 10 Kill turtles on the eastern coast of Tanaris near Steamwheedle Port and open the Big-mouth Clams they drop, or purchase on the Auction House.
Alterac Swiss 20 Purchase from most innkeepers. Closest to Tanaris is Inkeeper Abeqwa in Freewind Post, Thousand Needles (Horde) or  Craig Nollward in Theramore (Alliance).

You will use Giant Eggs in the next recipe step, so it’s recommended that you farm around 80-90 Giant Eggs total which should complete the quest and get you all the way to 285 cooking skill.

225-285
Recipe: Monster Omelet (both factions)

The Monster Omelet recipe can be purchased from Himmik in Everlook, Winterspring by both factions. If you don’t have Winterspring discovered, you may also purchase it in Felwood from Bale (Horde) or Malygen (Alliance).

Use the Giant Eggs you gathered in Tanaris to complete this step. If you run out of eggs, you can kill Felpaw Ravagers and Ironbeak Screechers Felwood and use the meat/eggs to cook Recipe: Tender Wolf Steak and Monster Omelet.

285-300
Recipe: Smoked Desert Dumplings

To obtain the recipe, you must complete the quest Sharing the Knowledge, which is the second quest in a chain starting with Desert Recipe given by Calandrath in Cenarion Hold, Silithus.

Once you get the recipe, kill Dredge Crushers and Dredge Strikers until you have enough Sandworm Meat to reach 300 cooking.

Congrats, you made it!
